Summer Beauty

Thanks to Walgreens for underwriting this post. I was paid as a member of the Clever Girls Collective, but the content is all mine. Visit

It's funny, but as I sit here writing this at my kitchen table, there are grey clouds rolling overhead, threatening to rain any minute.  It actually was raining when I woke up this morning.  But I'm going to talk about summer for a bit, even though it doesn't feel like summer in Seattle.

When I used to live in California, the temperatures could easily soar well above 100 degrees.  In fact, most days it did.  In order to avoid looking like a hot, sweaty mess, I kept my routine simple.  One staple of my summer regimen is a rosy-colored blush.  Obviously, I use it all the time.  I really need to buy more.  One of my favorite places to shop for makeup is Walgreens because of the variety of products available and all of the awesome deals.  I'm not sure that I've ever walked into a Walgreens and not seen some sort of BOGO deal.

During the summer, I absolutely detest blowdrying my hair.  The summer head is already dries it out enough without adding the heat from a blowdryer on a daily basis.  That's where Aussie Sprunch comes in handy.  After I get out of the shower, I towel dry my hair just a bit and then wait for it to start drying.  Once it's almost dry, I spray Aussie on my hair and scrunch it as I go.  I end up with wavy hair that doesn't get frizzy as the day progresses.

Another favorite is nail polish.  Not so much for my fingernails, but for my toes.  During the winter, I might opt for a deep red, but during the summer, I want something bright and fun.  This is my favorite color right now.  It's a pinky-orange color.  Even though Seattle is still dreery, I can still pretend it's warm and sunny out. :)

While I don't wear foundation every single day during the summer, there are those special occasions, like weddings or date nights with the hubby (which are far too rare these days), that call for just a bit more coverage.  I like using a foundation that doesn't get cakey and provides just enough coverage.

Like I mentioned above, I don't use foundation every single day during the summer.  That's where Jergen's Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer comes in handy.  This gives my skin just enough color and evens out my skin tone.  It allows me to simplify my makeup routine by eliminating the foundation and pressed powder.  I only use it 2 or 3 times a week so I don't wind up looking orange (I know we've all seen those girls who look orange).

And no summer beauty routine is complete without bobby pins and some hair ties.  During those hot summer days, keeping my hair down isn't always an option.  Having a stash of hair ties in my purse (or these days-diaper bag) is crucial.  Actually, I usually have one around my wrist just in case, because Lance is known for pulling my hair. :)

So...question to you guys: What are your go-to beauty products for the summer?
